BYD launches worlds largest car carrier ship

BYD has recently launched its fourth and largest car carrier ship, the BYD Shenzhen. Measuring 219 metres in length and 37.7 metres in width, this roll-on-roll-off (RoRo) vessel can accommodate up to 9,200 vehicles, surpassing the previous record held by the Höegh Aurora by approximately 100 cars. Named after BYD's home city, the Shenzhen is part of the company's strategy to expand its global reach, with plans to operate a total of eight such ships by early 2026.

The BYD Shenzhen is equipped with dual-fuel technology, allowing it to operate on both marine diesel and liquefied natural gas (LNG), enhancing its environmental performance. Additionally, the vessel incorporates BYD's own battery systems, which are expected to power the ship during docking and in low-emission zones, thereby reducing fuel consumption and emissions.

This development underscores BYD's commitment to controlling its supply chain and ensuring efficient distribution of its vehicles worldwide. By managing its own fleet of transport ships, BYD aims to mitigate potential challenges in freight capacity and maintain the reliability and efficiency that customers expect from their materials handling solutions.
